NEON is seeking proposals for candidate wadeable streams within Domains 2 (Mid-Atlantic) and 17 (Pacific Southwest) to become aquatic sites in the observatory. Any interested party external to NEON may submit a site proposal by following the guidelines outlined in the documents below. All proposals will be reviewed by a working group of scientists external to NEON who perform research in Domains 2 and 17. Following this review, recommendations will be submitted to NEON for a final assessment of feasibility and logistics.
In Domain 2, NEON seeks a single wadeable stream to become a relocatable aquatic site in the observatory. The accepted site will also serve as a site in the STReams Ecological Observatory Network (STREON) experiment. Candidate sites must be located within a 4-hour one-way driving distance of the NEON domain laboratory in Front Royal, Virginia. Due to the close proximity of Front Royal to the boundary with Domain 1 (Northeast), candidate sites may be located within Domain 1 so long as all other geographic criteria are met. See the documents below for further details on site criteria.
In Domain 17, NEON seeks two wadeable streams to become aquatic sites in the observatory. One site will serve as a core site and remain in the observatory for the full 30-year duration of NEON operations. The relocatable site will operate for approximately 10-15 years. One of these sites will also serve as a site Candidate sites in the STReams Ecological Observatory Network (STREON) experiment. Candidate sites must be located within a 4-hour one-way driving distance of the NEON domain laboratory in Fresno, California. See the documents below for further details on site criteria.
Proposals for each domain are due on December 1, 2014. Interested parties may submit more than one proposal per domain.
