We have implemented the following data product name changes to better reflect their content:
Data Product ID | Former Data Product Name | New Data Product Name |
---|---|---|
DP1.20048.001 | Stream discharge field collection | Discharge field collection |
DP4.00130.001 | Stream discharge | Continuous discharge |
DP4.00133.001 | Stream discharge rating curve | Stage-discharge rating curves |
The three NEON data products listed above are collected at rivers, streams, and lake inflow/outflow sites (D18 TOOK), but the current names imply they are collected only at stream sites. Moreover, 'stream discharge' is not a commonly used phrase in the literature; rather, it is common to use 'streamflow' or 'discharge'. Because discharge can be measured at any frequency, the proposed term 'Continuous discharge' provides additional clarity on the content of the data product and distinguishes it from the instantaneous measurements of discharge collected by field staff daily during periodic sampling events (as captured in the 'Discharge field collection' data product). Similarly, 'Stage-discharge rating curves' is also consistent with the language used by the USGS and others in the field and better communicates that NEON generates multiple curves through time at each site.
