Request Excess Soil Samples
Limited Time Availability!
The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) has excess air-dried soil from our Puerto Rico sites (Guanica Forest and Lajas Experiment Station) collected in 2017 pre and post hurricane. While the sites did not undergo massive hurricane damage, they still received large amounts of rainfall and the forest site lost a number of trees. If anyone is interested in obtaining these soils for research purposes and has a USDA permit to receive them, please fill out the form below to request/inquire about these excess soils. If you have any questions, please contact the Soil Archive team.
Excess soils may remain after soils are fully processed for physical, chemical and microbial measurements. The amount available in any given month will vary depending upon analytical needs for soils during that month; amounts will also vary across sites and years. NEON does not plan to archive these soils. However, we may be able to make excess soil available to the research community in an ad hoc fashion and on a first-come-first-serve basis.
